Enoshima Aquarium Co., Ltd. Enosui eco supporter Corporate member (continuing)

The Enoshima Aquarium was founded in 1952 by Hisakazu Hori, the former president of Nikkatsu, who was driving along National Route 134 and decided to stop off near the Shonan coast. At the time, there were no places nearby where he could stop for a rest, and he arrived at the Nishi-hama beach on Enoshima, which inspired him to build an aquarium. Soon after, on July 1st 1954, it was born as the first modern aquarium, and since then it has provided a place for relaxation for many people up to the present day. In 2017, the manned research submersible “Shinkai 2000” of JAMSTEC (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), which is on permanent display, was certified as “Mechanical Heritage No. 87” by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the aquarium continues to carry out activities that go beyond the conventional framework of an aquarium.
