Enoshima Aquarium Co., Ltd. Enosui eco supporter Corporate member (new)

The Enoshima Aquarium was founded in 1952 by Hisakazu Hori, the former president of Nikkatsu, who was driving along National Route 134 and decided to take a break near the Shonan coast. At the time, there were no places nearby where he could stop for a rest, and it was only when he arrived at the Nishi-hama beach on Enoshima that he got the idea to build an aquarium. Soon after, on July 1st 1954, the aquarium was born as the first modern aquarium, and ever since then it has been providing a place for relaxation for many people. In 2017, the manned research submersible “Shinkai 2000” of JAMSTEC (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), which is on permanent display, was certified as “Mechanical Heritage No. 87” by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the aquarium continues to carry out activities that go beyond the conventional framework of an aquarium.
